Earlier in the week, we reported that numerous collectors were finding the shipper containing the first wave of the Mighty Morphin Power Ranger Re-Ignition toys from Playmates Toy. Well yesterday, we also found them. We bought 2 complete sets of them, one to open and review while the other set is for my son that wanted them as well.

Combinable Triceratops Dinozord

Today we're taking a look at the Combinable Triceratops Dinozord from the Playmates Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Re-Ignition line.

Obviously, the roleplay toys and action figures are both integral parts of any Power Rangers toy line but what do you do when the villains cause their monsters to grow to gargantuan sizes? You summon your Zords and combine them into the colossal Megazord!

Packaging

The Triceratops Dinozord comes packaged in an enclosed box with a plastic window on the front, which is pretty standard for toys this size as the box it comes in is fairly large. Packaged inside is the Combinable Dinozord, it comes with a clear tail attachment, which is part of it's action feature (more on that later).

The front of the box, like the basic figures, has the five core Rangers' helmets down the side and the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Re-Ignition logo with the helmets. Opposite to that is text that says, "Missile Firing Action!" in the upper corner, while below that in the lower corner is a silhouette of the combined Megazord (the Triceratops is in full color) with the text "Collect & Combine All 5 to build the Megazord!" and "Triceratops Combinable Dinozord".

The rear of the box has the Re-Ignition logo in the upper left corner with "The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers are five ordinary teens chosen to receive amazing abilities. They summon the spirits of their mighty Dinozords and morph into the incredible Power Rangers. When Evil Aliens look large, they Dinozords combine to form an even more colossal battle machine, the Megazord!"

There are also product shots of the Triceratops Dinozord showing off it's action feature, a checklist of the other five Dinozords, and the combined Megazord in full color, which is mistransformed as well, but I'll talk about that on the Mastodon review. I will not that not all five Dinozords are available in the United States, the Pterodactyl and Mastodon haven't been found in stores as of yet, but the Mastodon was available briefly on Walmart's website for a few days.

Action Feature

Only three of the Dinozords come with action features and they are very basic features at that; the Triceratops has missile firing tail.

While the action feature is basic, my own son has been having a ton of fun blasting monsters with the missile firing tail, so I'm sure it will be hit with all kids.

Comparison

This is where Playmates version of the Dinozords are going to shine in my opinion...... They're massive. Each of the individual Dinozord dwarf's previous releases (with the exception of the Altaya version, that thing is not a toy so I'm not counting it in this comparison), with a few exceptions to a few like the Imaginext Megazord and the 2017 Megazord (which should we count that in a comparison with this, it's so radically different).

I only own one other version of the classic Megazord (working on filling gaps in the collection) and it's the Hasbro basic giftset that was sold on Amazon, that thing is already tiny and the Playmates one just makes it look shrimpy in comparison. I have seen comparisons online to the vintage 1993 version and the Playmates one is still larger.

As you can see, when you place the Triceratops into it's combined form and that is where the size difference really shows, and it has more articulation than other versions as well. It has ankle tilt and a ratcheting joint that becomes the Megazord knee, which has some seriously sturdy ratchets built into it.

The Dinozords are already my favorite pieces of the new toy line so far and the sheer size of what will be the combined Megazord is just amazing, I've wanted a large scale combinable Megazord for a very long time and Playmates is delivering that for me.

So, what about you, will you be buying the new Combinable Triceratops Dinozord? Sound off in the comments below!
